Capital Raising

If you are trying to raise money, you face several variables irrespective of broader market conditions. Not all investors have the same risk appetite and profile, and there is often a general reluctance on the part of many large banks and other financial institutions to lend out their money. So to do it right in today's complicated and often problematic investment environment, you need the edge that a well-crafted and farsighted investor relations campaign can bring.

TMC Communications is ideally positioned to help your company achieve its IR goals. We can create, implement and sustain a sophisticated target marketing campaign aimed at raising capital for your company − through either equity, debt or both. We divide our counsel and support in this area into two phases, the Planning and Implementation stages.

Planning Phase

We can:

Pinpoint what type of investor you wish to cultivate − private equity, pension or mutual fund, venture capital, hedge fund, sovereign investor or an individual investor of substantial net worth/family office, or a mix thereof.

Define the investment proposition − of all the places to invest money today (or not) why is your company or venture the ideal choice?

Get inside your balance sheet, to compare your company/industry prospects to comparable situations in your sector.

Help you determine what is realistic in terms of how much capital you can raise, while considering the pros and cons of both debt and equity.

Create a prospect list, along with guidelines on how best to approach each one − Internet/networking/cold call/written proposal/via third parties such as brokers; wealth advisors/trade groups/roadshows.

Conduct research on targets' previous investment histories, including activist investor potential.

Expand the range of buy- and sell−side analysts that are following the company.

Articulate the overall IR strategy and all elements of the mix − create a winning presentation/conduct presentation training for key executives comfortable at fundraising and then map out tactics for contacting prospects. The aim − to enhance the management team's overall presence and fundraising effectiveness.

Ensure that all communications in the marketing mix to the investor base restate and emphasize the core messages that define the compelling investment proposition.

Implementation Phase

We can:

Work in concert with any investment banks and law firms you are already working with to ensure world−class investor relations results.

Work with your in−house IR staff on maximizing the effectiveness and reach of your IR program, or serve in this capacity on an outsourced basis. This could include on an as−needed basis:
  • Advise senior management on how best to respond to investor and analyst concerns
  • Build and maintain a database of prospective and current investors
  • Update and refine your investor presentation
  • Organize and conduct meetings and/or roadshow events for management with a diverse range of investors
  • Serve as the distribution center for your IR and other marketing materials in the US, while also advising on how to devise a distinctly American angle for message content and packaging
  • Counsel you on best-practices for Internet-based IR
  • (If already public) − translate your annual report into American English if its prose is in another idiom
  • (If already public) − highlight those metrics that make the case for buying the stock
Lastly, we can help you measure the effectiveness of your communications program, by means of such techniques as confidential surveys and polls of your investor and analyst targets.
